New EPA Rule to Increase Costs of Statutory Civil Monetary Penalties

On August 1st, an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) interim final rule will go into effect that will increase EPA statutory civil monetary penalties to reflect inflation.  The rule ensures the EPA’s compliance with the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015.  The rule is not expected to change the EPA process of penalty assessment but could drastically change the cost of penalties imposed due to violations.   PPGMR Law has linked an article analyzing the effects of the interim rule and the published interim final rule.
